About “That Gouda Life”
I’ve always been a fan of music. Growing up I was a choir geek and drama nerd. I was involved in 16 different musicals or shows by the time I was 18. My genre choices for music were wide and varied. After I “became an adult” I ended up finding myself working in a small AM terrestrial radio station doing production work for live talk shows. From there, I found my way into the nightlife scene. From 2004 to about 2014 I was involved in all sorts of aspects of the nightlife, but a good majority of it was as an open format DJ. I played pretty much everything I could get away with that kept the crowd happy. The mainstays were pop, top 40, R&B, and hip hop. Life has a habit of “life’ing” and I found myself no longer wanting to work in the nightlife scene anymore. And while I didn’t want to work in the scene, I couldn’t give up my love of playing music.
I transitioned into playing online. I played on various online streaming sites dedicated to DJing (Mixify & ChewTV, and Mixcloud (I see you still active)), and was nerdy as heck about the tech. Eventually in 2014 I found my way into Second Life as a method to fill my need to play to people. I played here for a year or so before life got back to life’ing and I took a break.
When I returned to Second Life in 2020 (thanks COVID), things had changed, but the music was still amazing fun to play. In SL, most of the DJs had a group, and I wanted to name my group something fun and quirky. My first go-round, the group was called “Swiss Family Awesomesauce” and while that definitely fit at that time, it didn’t quite fit me anymore. I loved a good pun though, and named my group “That Gouda Life”. Partly because I love cheesy humor and dad jokes and the like, but yes, I do love cheese too. To me, That Gouda Life isn’t just my DJ group name, it’s more of a lifestyle for me. It reminds me that I can have fun anytime I think of it, and if I’m not having fun, there’s always cheese.
